Stamp Terms with the letter I
Imperforate - Stamps printed in sheets without perforation or other means of separation.
Imperf Between - Normal stamps that are perforated but with a line of perforations omitted between adjoining stamps or rows of stamps due to faulty manufacture.
Impressed - An imitation watermark impressed on the stamp by die-stamping.
Imprint - Name of printer or issuing authority printed on the sheet margins, or on the stamps themselves.
Inscription block - a block of stamps on whose selvage appears a printed inscription.
Intaglio - a method of printing in which the design is engraved (recessed) into a metal plate. Ink fills the recesses and, when the stamp is printed, forms small ridges, which can be detected by magnifying glass or by running your finger over the design and actually feeling the ridges.
International reply coupon (IRC) - a coupon good for one single-rate surface letter stamp.
Invert - a stamp with an element of the design upside down in relation to the other elements of the design.
